"The Tolerance Poster Project" at Kunstareal München
March 30 – April 29, 2021
An urban poster show
co-curated by Professor LARS HARMSEN

THE TOLERANCE PROJECT by #MirkoIllic is now to be seen for the first time in Germany at Kunstareal Munich. Prof. Lars Harmsen curated this show together with Dr. Caroline Fuchs (Curator for graphic design at Die Neue Sammlung).
Harmsen met Mirko back in 2015 while working on the Slanted New York issue. Illic initiated the "Tolerance Project" in 2017. Since then, the exhibition has toured the world but was never shown in Germany. Mirko invited the 'who's who' of graphic design to create a poster (Craig & Karl, Karlsson Wilker, Ed Fella, Edel Rodriguez, Niklaus Troxler, Peter Bankov, Christoph Niemann, Gunter Rambow, Uwe Loesch, Art Chantry, Paula Scher, Ariane Spanier…). The only rule: the poster should include the word 'Tolerance' in the designer's native language. Milton Glaser was the first to contribute, and he also created the exhibition's logo.
The show is now presented at over 10 different institutions within Munich Kunstareal, which all lend a unique atmosphere and specific environment to the show. From Pinakothek der Moderne, home to Die Neue Sammlung, to the church of St. Mark that is even presenting one of four selected posters in the altar room at specific services, to the tube of Munich...
The Kunstareal München is located right at Munich's heart and with its museums and colleges is one of Europe's most important cultural hubs. Across an area of 500 x 500 meters, it is the home of 18 museums and over 40 galleries, and six international colleges.
