Ringvorlesung dESIGN12+ #5: SOUND STUDIES TALKS

09.11.2022 / 18:00

Sound studies investigate sound using the methods of science and technology studies, ethnography, popular music studies, and cultural history. Its subjects come from everyday culture and popular culture, the history of science and technology, and the history of sound art.

Since 2021, a Sound Studies module has been offered regularly in the summer semesters in the Master's program Creative Audio Director in the Department of Design at FH-Dortmund, which has so far also been used by students of other Master's programs of FB2 as an alternative academic offering.

In the lecture series, Prof. Jörg U. Lensing will give an introductory overview of the current state of Sound Studies in Europe.

Following this, the Colombian Master's student in Photographic Studies Alejandra Martinez will present her study "Soundscapes as Acoustic Places of Belonging" in an audio-visual lecture.

Following this approximately 15-minute lecture, Master's student Creative Audio Director Ramon Klünder complements the lecture series event with his short talk, also audio-visually, on the topic of "Soothing Sounds."

This second lecture series on Sound Studies introduces audio-visual lectures developed primarily by design master's students in the summer semester of 2022 in a sensory-cognitive manner. The talks are scheduled for a total of 45 minutes. Afterward, all speakers will be available for questions.

Moreover, on November 9 until 6 p.m., the current auditory exhibition "50 Years in 50 Minutes for 50 Days" can be visited for the last time in the gallery of the Department of Design! See https://www.fh-dortmund.de/termine/50-jahre-in-50-minuten-50-tage-lang.php
