Jeff Hull - "Buried: Shaman & Shadows in the World of Immersive Arts"

Oakland California based artist and producer of participatory narrative works Jeff Hull will explore the inspirations, history, and techniques of his creative agency Nonchalance’s unique projects over the last 20 years including the results, successes and unintended consequences.  The crux of the talk will focus on what has changed in the world of Immersive & Participatory Arts, and what are the unique challenges and existential questions creators are currently facing. He wishes for a robust discussion following his presentation.

Jeff Hull is the founder and director of Nonchalance, a situational design agency whose mission is to provoke discovery through visceral experience and perceive play. Jeff and Nonchalance developed and facilitates live immersive gaming proprieties focused on personal transformation and leadership through automated environments, urban exploration and curated multi-day retreats. Notable work has been the Jejune Institute and Latitude Society. The immense in scale participatory narrative project the Jejune Institute was the subject of the award-winning documentary The Institute and served as the inspiration for the TV-Series Dispatches from Elsewhere for AMC and available for streaming on Amazon Prime, for which he was the executive producer. The Latitude Society was respectively covered in the documentary In Bright Axiom.  He additionally was the founder of Oaklandish, a street art campaign, apparel brand and producer of over 100 cultural events. He has recently been focusing on writing and producing for film, TV and radio. Most recently with Nonchalance’s podcast “SGNYL: A General Mystification,” available on all podcasting platforms.
